Stablecoins, decided before they are built.

Before a stablecoin is issued, accepted or used to settle, five decisions shape everything after them: whether to issue or integrate, which MiCA role that gives you, how each corridor pays out at the far end, who can sign, and how the token reaches your books. We make those decisions with you, then design the system that follows from them, and write it down so your board, your auditors and your supervisor can follow it.

For

Banks, payment and e-money institutions, fintechs, corporate treasuries and NGOs that issue, accept, or settle in stablecoins.

You get

A route decision, a regulatory role map, and the architecture, corridors, custody and integration that follow from them.

How we work together

A milestone-based mandate from the first decision to launch, or an advisory cadence alongside your team.

How the mandate runs, and what you hold after each phase.

Four phases, each closed by a written decision before the next one starts. Open a deliverable to see what is inside.

Your use case, markets, counterparties, existing infrastructure and the regimes that apply, written up as the options on the table.

Decision gateScope and options agreed.

A framing note: the options, the constraints and the questions the decision phase must answer.

The route and the regulatory role, taken to your decision-makers. Nothing is designed until the route is agreed.

Start from your question.

Pick the question closest to yours. You see where the mandate starts, which of the six workstreams it touches, and what you hold once the decision phase closes.

You are a bank, an e-money institution or a platform, and you need to know whether issuing is worth a licence, a reserve and a distribution effort, or whether EURC or USDC does the job.

Issue or integrate? Four questions, one starting route.

The screen we run in a first call. It is indicative, not legal advice: the route decision memo is where the answer is tested, with your counsel.

Do you hold, or plan to obtain, a bank or e-money licence?
Do you need the token under your own brand?
Will you hold, exchange or transfer tokens on behalf of clients?
Will your clients hold the token, not just your treasury?

Four routes into stablecoins, from the lightest to the heaviest.

Route 01

Integrate existing regulated tokens

The fastest route: you settle in EURC or USDC through a regulated partner, and the issuer carries the reserve and redemption.

MiCA role
Usually no licence for your own treasury; a CASP partner holds and converts for you.
We check first
The partner's MiCA status, custody of your own balances, and the accounting treatment.

Route 02

Offer stablecoin services to your clients

You hold, exchange or transfer tokens issued by others on behalf of clients, which makes you a crypto-asset service provider.

MiCA role
CASP authorisation from the AMF, with an ACPR opinion; some regulated firms notify instead.
We check first
The activity list, notification against authorisation, and the DORA and Travel Rule programme.

Route 03

A branded token from a licensed issuer

Your brand on the token, without your own e-money licence: the licensed partner issues, holds the reserve and redeems.

MiCA role
The partner is the EMT issuer; your role depends on the services you add.
We check first
The issuer contract, reserve and redemption terms, and who faces the holder.

Route 04

Issue your own EMT

Full control of the token and the reserve income, at the cost of a licence, a reserve, redemption at par and a distribution effort.

MiCA role
EMT issuer: a credit institution or an e-money institution, a MiCA white paper, ACPR supervision, the EBA if significant.
We check first
Reserve and redemption design, the distribution plan, and liquidity buffers under stress.

Six workstreams, one map.

From the first decision to the bank account. Most mandates start with the first two; the others follow from what they decide. The workstreams your question touches are marked.

Decide the route: issue, integrate, or partner.

Four routes compared: accept existing tokens such as EURC or USDC, offer services to clients as a CASP, distribute a branded token from a licensed issuer, or issue your own EMT. Each is scored on licence, cost, time to market and control, and we recommend one.

Map your regulatory role and licence architecture.

Design corridors and payouts.

Europe to Africa and the Middle East: the licensed off-ramp partner in each market, how its payout liquidity is prefunded, where FX conversion happens, payout to bank accounts, mobile money or cash pickup, and who owns the exception when a payout fails after the token has moved.

Frequently asked

Common questions about stablecoin advisory.

Should we issue our own stablecoin or integrate an existing one?

Most firms should integrate an existing regulated token such as EURC or USDC. Issuing makes sense when you hold, or can obtain, a credit institution or e-money licence, have a network that will hold the token, and can fund the reserve and redemption operations. We compare the routes on licence, cost, time to market and control, and recommend one.

Which MiCA role will we hold?

It depends on what you do with the token. Issuing an e-money token requires a credit institution or e-money institution. Holding, exchanging or transferring tokens for clients requires CASP authorisation, granted in France by the AMF with an opinion from the ACPR. Using stablecoins for your own treasury often requires neither. We map each activity to its role, its supervisor and its obligations.

Can you design payouts to mobile money in Africa?

Yes. We design Europe to Africa and Middle East corridors end to end: the licensed off-ramp partner in each market, prefunded payout liquidity, the FX conversion point, and payout to bank accounts, mobile money wallets such as M-Pesa, MTN MoMo or Orange Money, or cash pickup, with an owner for every exception.

Do you choose the custody provider for us?

No. We design custody as a control first: who signs, with how many approvals, and how a lost key is recovered. Then we compare models and providers, for example Fireblocks, Taurus, Ripple Custody or BitGo, against those requirements and write down why one fits. You make the choice.

Can you help with a MiCA, NYDFS, or MAS licence?

We design the architecture and operating model the application describes, and work alongside your legal counsel, who files it. tracee is a consulting firm, not a law firm.

Which blockchain should we use?

It depends on who you settle with, where your liquidity sits, and what your supervisor expects. We compare the options on cost, reach, custody support, and regulatory acceptance, and write down why one wins.
